Weekend Wrap-Up: It’s A New World

Weekend Wrap-Up: It’s A New World

The Weekend Wrap-Up offers a little look at what I’m reading, the new books that came my way, and anything else I may have gotten up to this past week. I will be linking up to Stacking the ShelvesThe Sunday Post and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? and hopping around your blogs a little to see what the community has to share too! This past week I found myself with many deadlines, fingers crossed for me!

My Week

I’m going to keep this fairly short this week as I don’t have much to report! I’ve spent the time so exhausted I’ve struggled to manage much reading or blogging, or the CBT. However, I have been trying and that’s progress. Last night I fell asleep before midnight and woke up at 9.30am. My body isn’t happy about it, but progress! I can just cross my fingers and keep persevering and see how things go.

Watching

I wrapped up The Circle series 3. After all the warring alliances and so on, it was a lovely end to the series! Always enjoy when they meet at the end and hug it all out. Definitely the best reality tv series. I also continued on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK series 3. I think I’m starting to get a hold on the new queens and I do always like seeing the differences between UK and US drag. Though I still feel like they’re much too harsh on queens looking “cheap”.

Playing

Most of my week has been taken up by Final Fantasy XIV, and come Tuesday, New World. For those unaware, New World is Amazon Games’ first game released and it’s taken off. Apparently had over 1 million sales, which for an MMO is huge. The queues have been the biggest news, lasting hours. It took me 4 hours to get online yesterday after I’d got home from CBT, I didn’t get too much playtime in before I found myself too tired and went off to bed but I have got a decent chunk of time in over the week and I’m really loving the game. Keeping myself unflagged from pvp, just roaming around doing my quests, exploring, gathering, and all the good things. It’s very peaceful, and I love the combat. I’m currently rocking a Hatchet/Bow build that relies on Dexterity and it feels really nice. Beautiful game, as well, even on low settings.

On The Blog

Yesterday I was very grateful to be a part of one of The Write Reads‘ tours for The Chronicles of Iona: Exile! I’m struggling a lot with the book right now because of my fatigue issues, but it’s really good so far. I’m super impressed. Do check out my spotlight for that if you’re interested in 6th-century Scotland historical fiction in the time of the Celts.

Incoming

You know, I realised I hadn’t claimed a book for last month’s Prime Reads (or whatever they’re bloody called now, I don’t know) when the email came through this week for October’s! I was happy to see something in the speculative fiction arena among the choices so I snapped up Star Mother. Gunmetal Gods was free at the time of purchase, not sure if it still is but I believe I’ve heard good things about this one! It’s an indie fantasy, which I’m always excited for.

Next Week

Just plugging away at the CBT. I’ve now got to try and sleep earlier. I’ve tried it before but we’ll see if it sticks this time I guess… And attempt going for walks but that one I don’t know I can yet, we shall see. I know I will be gaming a lot, perhaps I’ll blog a little about that this week if I’m able. Everything I have planned, outside of the 2 D&D games I’ll be running, is just about trying. S’all we can do sometimes.

How have your weeks been? Anybody playing New World perchance? Picked up either of these books? How is your reading going? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I hope you have a good week. I looked at Star Mother when it was offered but passed. I have liked some of Holmberg’s books and really disliked others. I wasn’t feeling like taking a chance. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. I’m enjoying it, though a lot of it is the marketing and timing of it. Stuff is complicated, haha.

My therapist suggested going to bed at the time you want to, if you can’t sleep after half an hour, get back up, do something relaxing for a bit, and then try again. And set alarms. Doesn’t really work for me but I try it.
